HAMLET Act 5

Questions I ask myself:
Did Hamlet truly love Ophelia?
Did the queen know about King Hamlet's murder? Was she complicit?
Why does Ophelia drown herself -- is there evidence in the play that she is pregnant? Why can't she have a proper church burial?
Is Hamlet "mad"? going through the stages of grief? bi-polar? selfish and self-centered? indecisive because of "the devil"? How would you categorize him.

Refer to themes in the unit plan and other theme ideas you have from your own reading. What themes most apply to your reading of the play? (I would add indecision, rash behavior, and loyalty.)

  1. Yes, he loved her. No, the queen did not know. Not complicit. There are hints of being pregnant, but it doesn't come out and say it for certain. Ophelia has great grief over everything in her life and cannot handle it anymore. She cannot have proper burial because they do not know if she had asked forgiveness for her sins or if she actually killed herself. Hamlet is mistakenly mad for what happened to his father. Very grieved, but handles it in a different way such as revenge.

    Themes: Refer to past blogs.

  2. He loved her. The queen didn't know. It wasnt complicit. I read some parts of her being pregnant. She cant have a proper burial because the gravediggers cant decide weather she killed herself or not. Hamlet is furious.
